8 Pakistani soldiers injured in landmine blast (Pakistan)
Eight Pakistani soldiers were injured when their convoy hit a landmine in Pakistan's tribal region on Monday, officials said.
The injured were taken in a helicopter to a military hospital in Bannu, a major city at the edge of the tribal region of North Waziristan.
The private Dawn TV quoted local authorities in Wana, the center of South Waziristan, as saying that a landmine exploded near an army convoy and hit a vehicle at the Tanai area at 5 p.m. (1100GMT).
The convoy was heading to Wana from Tank, a city near South Waziristan, the local administration said. It said that the vehicle was totally destroyed, witnesses said. The army blocked the main road traffic between Wana and Tank after the blast.
Officials said that the authorities had tightened security on the main road and troops were also deployed to protect the convoy.
