Angola hosts SADC's Mine Action Committee meeting

LUANDA, March 30 -- Angola in co-ordination with the Secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), holds from April 05 to 06, in Luanda, the eighth meeting of the landmines action technical committee.


ANGOP learnt this Thursday from a press release that, the meeting aims, among other aspects, discussing the issue of post conflict reconstruction, demining and institutional changes.
In the opening of the recently held workshop on demining, the Social Welfare Minister, João Baptista Kassumua, revealed that over 46 million square metres have already been demined.
The event also discussed topics such as the "Institutional Insertion of Organs in Charge of Demining", "Role and Participation of Partners, mainly NGOs and firms, in the Operational Demining Plan of the Government in the 2006/2007 biennium".
The workshop was attended by Government officials, MPs, representatives of political parties, of public and private organs, religious entities, amongst others. - angop
