Cuito — The situation of landmines and unexploded ordnance in central Bié province is still worrying.

This was said Tuesday in Cuito by the liaison officer of the National Inter-ministerial Commission for Demining and Humanitarian Aid (CNIDAH) in Bié, Norberto Quinta.

Speaking to Angop, the official said this year CNIDAH notified five accidents with landmine, in the localities of Cuito and Chitembo, with two cases each and Cunhinga with one.

The source who would not mention the number of victims, stressed that the accidents with landmines and other explosive devices continue causing human and material losses.

He appealed to social partners and the traditional authorities to continue mobilising and raising awareness in the communities to spot other areas suspect of having landmines and unexploded ordnance.
