Arms caches discovered and destroyed in Chechnya, Dagestan (CHECHNYA/RUSSIA)
In a ditch between the Chechen villages of Mesker-Yurt and Dzhalka, not far from the federal road Baku-Rostov-na-Donu, Chechen policemen found a cache containing seven improvised explosive devices and three shoulder-fired antitank grenade launchers, two hand grenades, a Makarov pistol and 160 rounds of ammunition for automatic weapons.
Two caches containing explosives and weapons have been found in Chechnya and Dagestan.
On the outskirts of Khasavyurt, policemen of Khasavyurtovskiy District of Dagestan found a cache containing a powerful explosive device belonging to two fighters who were killed at the end of September this year.
Interfax-Yug [Interfax-South] news agency was told on Saturday [22 October] by a source in the town's law-enforcement agencies that the cache, which was found not far from a car bridge over the Aktash river, contained an explosive device which consisted of three Shmel thermobaric weapons, four disposable shoulder-fired antitank grenade launchers and four directional mines.
The explosive device was fitted with six detonators from mortar projectiles. It was set to explode on attempt to extract it and was, therefore, destroyed on the spot.
In addition, 42 grenade launcher rounds for a multiple-use shoulder-fired antitank grenade laucher and 360 rounds of ammunition for a large-calibre machine-gun were found in the cache.

A source in the administration of the town of Argun told the agency by telephone that two explosive devices consisted of 10-litre buckets with wires leading outside, an explosive substance and projectiles, with the latter two being covered over with wax. Improvised explosive devices in four five-litre bottles and one one-litre tin were similarly made.
Apart from that, the cache contained three shoulder-fired antitank grenade launchers, two hand grenades, a Makarov pistol and 160 rounds of ammunition for automatic weapons.
[RIA news agency, Moscow, in Russian 0642 gmt 22 Oct 05 reported that two caches containing weapons and ammunition have been found in Chechnya. The agency said: "The second cache was found in the village of Staryye Atagi in Groznenskiy District in the vegetable garden of a house for rent. Employees of the local internal affairs directorate extracted from it a Kalashnikov assault rifle, an 82-mm calibre artillery round, 11 grenade launcher rounds and 107, 5.45-mm calibre rounds of ammunition." The agency added that "all weapons and ammunition were destroyed by way of explosion".]
