Bilateral agreement between Angola and Switzerland - Finalization of the implementation mechanisms


The programme supports Angola's endeavours in terms of development-oriented humanitarian aid and reconstruction for the most vulnerable people in the country. It encompasses several sectors and levels of intervention, such as Mine Action (mine clearance, mine risk education, social re-insertion of mine victims), Vocational Training and Social Projects.

Following the bilateral agreement that was signed between Angola and Switzerland on the first of November 2005, a meeting was held in Luanda on the 30st of November to finalize the implementation mechanisms.

The meeting was headed by H.E. Joaquim António Carlos dos Reis Júnior, Secretary of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Angola, and Mr. Walter Fust, Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation. The meeting nominated on each side one Representative of the Programme responsible for strategic guidance and confirmed the respective Terms of Reference. It also established an Executive Secretary's Office whose responsibility is the support and the monitoring of the implementation of the Programme.

The Constituting Meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere. Both sides affirmed their will to co-operate closely and will start with the implementation of humanitarian and social projects soon. Based on the broad consensus that was achieved during the meeting, project-identification and detailed preparation will start without delay.
