Blast kills three of a family
Pul-i-Alam, AFGHANISTAN, 11 April 2010 (Pajhwok Afghan News) - -Three members of a family were killed in an explosion in central Logar province, residents said on Sunday.
The dead, a girl and her two brothers, belonged to a nomadic family, said Gulab Khan Kochi, uncle of the victims. He added the girl was 12-year-old while her brothers were 18 and 14. He said it was not clear whether the explosion was caused by some unexploded wartime device or a newly-planted landmine. Provincial crime branch chief Brig. Gen. Muhammad Jan Abid said the blast resulted from an old device. Fazlur Rahmad, resident of the area, said caravans of mujahideen used to pass through the area and the blast might have been caused by an unexploded shell. According to a report by demining agencies, 40 people are killed and injured every month due to blasts caused by unexploded devices.
