The troops of Border Security Force (BSF) Wednesday beat up several people and damaged vehicles at Shalteng here.

Eyewitnesses said the troops stopped civilian vehicles including a Sumo, Maruti, Bolero and beat up the passengers who were on board. The incident took place after a landmine explosion took place in the area.

"The civilians, who sustained injuries in the explosion, were also beaten by the BSF men with gun-butts," said a photojournalist who had rushed to the spot.

"When the BSF convoy was passing, I just stopped my Maruti on one side of the road where a Bolero and Sumo vehicles had halted," said Dr Muhammad Amin. He said that when the BSF convoy passed "I too started the vehicle and moved forward. But, a BSF vehicle, lagging behind the main convoy, vented the wrath on civilians."

"The soldiers in that vehicle damaged the civilian vehicles and mercilessly beat up the people without any reason," Dr Amin added.
