Civilians killed, NATO soldiers injured in suicide attack (AFGHANISTAN)
Two civilians were killed and four NATO soldiers injured in a suicide attack at a military convoy in Sangin district of the southern Helmand province on Friday. Brig. Gen. Muhammad Hussain Andiwal, police chief of the province, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomber detonated his explosive-packed jeep in the market area. A NATO vehicle was also damaged in the attack, said the police chief, who added body of the bomber was charred beyond recognition.
Shukrullah, an eyewitness, told Pajhwok the attacker detonated his car close to the NATO convoy in Sangin Bazaar. Shukrullal said he had seen at least one military vehicle went up in flames.
Claiming responsibility, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the attack was carried out by a local Asmatullah, resident of Helmand.
Without giving the exact number of casualties, the purported spokesman claimed two vehicles were destroyed and all the soldiers on board were killed in the explosion.
Separately, two policemen were injured when their vehicle hit a roadside landmine in the same district Friday morning, said the police chief.
