Dead Marine named (Afghanistan)

(23.02.2007) A Royal Marine, killed by a landmine in Afghanistan two days ago, was named as Jonathan Holland, right, from Chorley, Lancs. Marine Holland, 23, who joined the forces in 2002, was due to marry his girlfriend, Hayley, and wanted to leave military service so they could buy a house together.

He died after being injured by a mine during a routine patrol in the Sangin district of Helmand province. He was the first British serviceman to be killed in Afghanistan for more than a month and the 47th since operations were launched in 2001.
Another Marine died in a British hospital yesterday after a road accident in Afghanistan earlier this month.
He was a member 42 Commando and had been injured in an accident while driving a Pinzgauer vehicle as part of a routine convoy in Helmand province, Afghanistan on Feb 4. He was treated in theatre then flown to a specialist unit in the UK.
