Enterprise Soldier Killed
Lance Corprel Carl Raines Junior of Enterprise died last Thursday from a landmine in a Marine offensive near the Syrian border.
It is a terrible time for the Raines family.
Carl's father says in his short 20 years of life, his son had touched thousands of lives. Last Thursday, Carl Raines, Senior says he was watching the news when they reported on a major U.S. Marine offensive near the Syrian border.
Raines says he had a "bad" feeling. A few hours later he received word that his son, 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Carl Raines, had been killed by a roadside bomb. Carl was assigned to combat Service Support Detachment 21, 2nd Force Service Support group. He was driving a Humvee.
Young Carl is a 2003 graduate of Enterprise High School. It was there where he was the commander of the school's award winning ROTC Blue Knights Drill Team. Raines was one of six Marines who were killed in the sweep of Al-Qaida militants in western Iraq.
Carl Senior is retired military and says his son always displayed valor. Carl served two tours during the height of the Vietnam War in the 1960's.
Lance Corporal Raines is the third soldier from Coffee County who has died in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Since the conflict began two-and-a-half years ago.
Funeral services are not complete, but, Lance Corporal Raines' family says it'll take place at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Enterprise.
