Forest fire triggers landmine blasts along LoC (JAMMU)


Jammu, June 11 (PTI): Fifteen landmine explosions took place along the Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir overnight due to a forest fire, spreading panic in the nearby hamlets but causing no casualties, official sources said here today.

The fire broke out in the forests in Sunderbani hills in Rajouri late last night and spread to the no-mans land along LoC at Minika-Mahadevi forward belt, they said.

The blaze triggered the explosion of some anti-personnel landmines, planted by the troops during the 2002 Indo-Pak border build-up, they said adding, the 15 blasts, which occurred throughout the night one after another, triggered panic and fear in the nearby villages.

No casualty was reported and no damage was caused due to the explosions this side, sources said.
