Georgia agrees with ban on mine use (Georgia)
Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb. 18/ The revised protocol to Geneva convention of 1980 envisages ban to use antipersonnel mines, booby traps or other explosive mechanisms.
The protocol was considered in the Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations on Feb. 18.
In accordance wit the protocol, it is forbidden to use antipersonnel mines, as well as booby traps or other explosive mechanisms.
The revised protocol of Geneva convention obliges conflict sides to clear territories of mines after ceasing of military operations. Use of remote and non remote antipersonnel mines is also forbidden.
The Committee supported Georgia's joining the revised protocol.
