Italy Supports Demining Process
(ANGOLA) 12 July 2010 - The Italian ambassador to Angola, Giuseppe Mistreta expressed on Friday in Luanda his country's intention to continue supporting the demining programme in Angola with the offer in the coming days of 150.000 Euros.
The amount is for the programme of landmine action of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which provides technical advice to national institute of demining (INAD).
The announcement was made by the Italian ambassador during a meeting with the general directors of INAD and UNDP, respectively Leonardo Severino Sapalo and Gita Wells who congratulated the initiative. Leonardo Severino considered the amount as an added value since it comes to be used in the operation programme of the demining brigades working in the country. This gesture, said the official, is a clear demonstration of confidence from Italian government in the work done in Angola, particularly by that institution. He said that the demining continues within the framework of reconstruction and development focused on the work of locating, removal and destruction of landmines on roads and localities where several infrastructures will be built.
