Jawan injured in twin Poonch IED blasts
(INDIA) Jammu, 3 May 2010 -An army jawan was critically injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion ahead of fence near Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district today while two militant hideouts were busted in Reasi and Poonch districts.
Meanwhile one alleged militant sympathizer was held in Thathri area of Doda. Reports from Mendhar said, "Sepoy Daleep Kumar of Hamirpur Battalion, who was among the patrol party, was seriously hurt in an IED explosion between Kanga Gali and MST forward posts of Balakote Sector near LoC this morning at around 11.30am."Profusely bleeding, the jawan was immediately airlifted to the Command Hospital, Udhampur this afternoon at 2 pm and his condition was stated to be stable. The jawan sustained splinter injuries at his forehead and one of his eyes."The jawans were patrolling following first IED blast that took place this morning at around 11 am at the same location," reports said and added that twin IED blasts took place with in a gap of half an hour. The jawans were conducting searches to verify the nature of first explosion.
Sources, however, did not rule out the possibility of booby trap by the militants, who sneaked into the Indian side, planted two IEDs near a pond and managed to flee back. The IEDs being triggered through remote control also can't be ruled out, sources said. Meanwhile, search has been intensified in the area as the presence of militants, who might have planted these IEDs, cannot be ruled out. Reports from Bhaderwah said that one alleged militant sympathizer Mohammed Hanif son of Maram Bakas resident of Kathasoo Thathri was detained by the police from his residence today. He was shifted to JIC Doda for interrogation. Official sources said he was closely associated with LeT commanders Abu Anas and Abu Azan and was providing food, SIM cards, mobile phones to them besides information about the security forces' movement. Reports from Reasi said that a militant hideout was busted during joint operation of police and army in Mahore area of Reasi district.445 rounds of AK rifle and 11 detonators were recovered from a hideout. Search was still on when the reports last came in.Another militant hideout was unearthed in forested Kalai area of Poonch district, an official spokesman today said.One AK rifle with magazine, one Chinese pistol with two magazines and three rounds, 398 rounds of AK ammunition and a mobile phone were recovered from a hideout at Thal Top in Kalai area of Poonch last afternoon, spokesman added.Published by HT Syndication with permission from Kashmir Times.
