As of yesterday, at least 2,500 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003. List of Identifications of soldiers killed in Action; one died from a landmine.

Pvt. Benjamin J. Slaven, 22, Plymouth, Neb.; died June 9 when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle in Diwaniyah; assigned to the Army Reserve 308th Transportation Company, Lincoln, Neb.

Sgt. Jose M. Velez, 35, Bronx, N.Y.; died June 9 in Kirkuk of injuries received when an explosive detonated near his vehicle; assigned to the Army Reserve 773rd Transportation Company, Fort Totten, N.Y.

Seaman Apprentice Zachary M. Alday, 22, Donalsonville, Ga.; died June 9 when his vehicle struck a land mine in Anbar province; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 7th Regimental Combat Team, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Lance Cpl. Salvador Guerrero, 21, Los Angeles, and Lance Cpl. Brent B. Zoucha, 19, Merrick, Neb.; died June 9 in Anbar province; assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Spc. Luis D. Santos, 20, Rialto, Calif.; died June 8 in Buritz of injuries received when an explosive detonated near his vehicle; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
