Mogadishu, Oct 27, 2008 (Shabelle Media Network/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Ethiopian troops were targeted by successive explosions between Bar Isma'il checkpoint and Arbiska in Afgoi District of lower Shabelle region on Sunday night according to residents.
The successive explosions from landmines operated by remote control targeted Ethiopian soldiers patrolling areas between Bar Isma'il and Carbiska at about 0100 [local time] in the morning.
The explosions inflicted losses on the Ethiopian troops as people who passed the area this morning say the saw body parts strewn on the ground.
It's yet unknown the exact causalities on the troops.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for that blast.
Islamic insurgents have carried out almost daily attacks on government troops and their Ethiopian allies in the capital since they were driven from Mogadishu in December 2006.
In the past few months, fighters linked to the Islamic Courts Union have begun staging hit and run raids on outlying towns.
Impoverished Somalia has not had a government since warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991 and then turned their clan-based militias on each other.
