Laos: Japan grants aid for landmine clearance in Laos (JAPAN)

Section: Regional News - The Japanese Government will provide an aid package of more than 8 billion kip (close to 838,800 USD) for the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) to help clear landmine and other unexploded ordnances (UXO) in the Lao province of Xiengkhouang .


THAILAND, 5 March 2008 (Thai News Service)--

An agreement to this effect was signed by Japanese Ambassador to Laos Masaaki Miyashita and JMAS Country Representative in Laos Tomoyasu Tagawa in Vientiane last weekend.
Accordingly, JMAS will provide financial and technical support for landmine clearance activities in the province.
The project will contribute to improving living conditions of local people by reducing the number of casualties as well as increasing land areas for cultivation
