Mass burial of 64 victims of claymore mines attack (Sri Lanka)


Funeral Colombo 17 June, (Asiantribune.com): The government sponsored mass burial took place at the Kebithigollewa cemetery yesterday evening for the 64 civilians who were killed in a claymore attack on Thursday morning.

Earlier, Sri Lanka Government decided to hold the funeral yesterday evening at the Kebithigollewa cemetery.
Accordingly, all the 64 bodies had been taken to the Kabithigollawa Maha Vidyalaya. Religious ceremonies commenced at 2 pm before the burial.
According to reports a big crowd gathered around the place to share their grief with families.
Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva read President Mahinda Rajapaksa's message of condolence. Many other politicians were also present at the burial. The Sri Lanka Police saluted the fallen. The government sponsored the burial.
Meanwhile, it was reported that security fears prompted many residents from the border villages of Kebithigollewa to flee their villages and take shelter in public buildings and in relatives' and friends' houses near Kebithigollewa town.
