Militant killed in Kupwara (Pakistan)


A guard of BJP state president Muhammad Yusuf Sofi was injured when a mine-blast occurred near a petrol pump at Semthan crossing Bijbehara in Islamabad district on Saturday.

Srinagar: Troops killed an unidentified militant in a shootout in Handwara area of northern Kupwara district in Kashmir on Friday night.

Reports said troops and police cordoned the Haran Chogul village in Handwara and started search operations. They were fired on by a militant holed in the area, police said.

In the ensuing encounter the militant was killed. His identity is being ascertained.

Meanwhile police held Muhammad Amin Bhat son of Sanaullah of Batapora Kulgam and Javed Ahmad Dar son of Muhammad Ashraf of Bulbul Nowgam in Islamabad on Saturday, a local news agency CNS said.

Unidentified persons abducted and later thrashed Muhammad Yusuf Lone son of Ghulam Muhammad of Kanthpora Sogam in Kupwara on Thursday night, police said.

However he managed to escape and has been hospitalized, police added.
