Military commander scores NPAs for planting landmines
Koronadal City (31 March) -- The commander of the 27th Infantry Battalion based in Barangay Kablon, Tupi, South Cotabato confirmed that a landmine was found by the 25th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Lambunao, Barangay Lasak, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.
During the March 29 Kapihan sa SOCCSKSARGEN held at the Philippine Information Agency Office - Region 12, Koronadal City, Lt. Col Carlos Quita, commander of the 27th Infantry Battalion told the media and public information officers present that the landmine was discovered by the security elements of the 25th IB under Lt. Col Cesar Idio based in Columbio,Sultan Kudarat on March 26, Sunday, about 2:30 PM.
Col. Quita related that the security forces noticed a protruding wire and traced it leading to the discovery of the landmine. He said the landmine is an LPG tank full of dynamite sticks. He deduced that it is intended to hit a military tank or an armored car and not personnel because the explosives according to him were set upwards.
Alluding to the NPAs as perpetrators of this terroristic activity, Quita said they planted several landmines along the roads as early as January and since then government troops started searching leading to the said discovery.
Believing that there are more that have been planted by the NPAs, Col Quita is calling the public to report any information that may lead to discovery of landmines. An informer will get a modest monetary reward which according to him maybe less important comparing to the valuable lives that will be saved.
