NATO soldier killed in Afghanistan (Afghanistan)

A NATO soldier is killed and another wounded in an explosion in troubled southern Afghanistan, the alliance force says in a statement.

"An ISAF soldier died of wounds and another was injured today (Tuesday) as a result of an explosion during a patrol in Ghazni province," NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said, without providing further details.

Also, two Polish soldiers suffered non-life threatening leg injuries in a separate landmine blast on Monday in Ghazni province, the Polish army announced in Warsaw.

The latest casualty brought to 38 the number of foreign forces serving under ISAF and the separate US-led coalition killed in Afghanistan this year.

Nearly 220 international troops have died, most of them in violence last year.

More than 70,000 international troops are based in Afghanistan combating an insurgency led by the Taliban.
