Old explosive device kills four Afghan minors (AFGHANISTAN)
Four minors were perished when an old explosive device went off in Aryub Zazai district of the southeastern Paktia province.
The explosion occurred in Hashemkhel area of the district last evening, governor's spokesman Din Muhammad Darwesh told Pajhwok Afghan News on Thursday.
The victims, whose ages were between nine and 12 years, were playing with the device they had found in the nearby mountains, said Darwesh.
Security chief of the province Ghulam Dastagir Rustamyar said it was an old bullet left from the era of jihad.
Amin Zazai, resident of the area where the explosion occurred, criticised the mine-clearing agencies of not performing their job.
Zazai said many parts of the province were still dotted with unexploded devices and landmines of the anti-Soviet jihad era which needed to be removed to secure the lives of innocent civilians
