One dead, three injured in Kosovo land mine explosion, police say (Kosovo)
PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) - Kosovo authorities have said one man died and three were injured in an explosion blamed on a land mine.
Police say the men were collecting scrap metal in a field some 20 kilometers (12 miles) west of the capital Pristina on Tuesday when they triggered the explosion. Two are in serious condition.
The land mine is believed to have been left over from the 1998-99 war between ethnic Albanian separatists and Serb forces. The conflict led to NATO bombings, bringing Kosovo under international U.N. and NATO control in 1999.
Over eight years after the end of the war, Kosovo's countryside is still littered with unexploded ordnance and mines.
