Roadside bomb kills six Afghan policemen (AFGHANISTAN)
Six police personnel, including an officer, were killed in a landmine explosion in the southeastern Khost province on Thursday.
Separately, one cop and two Taliban militants were perished in a road accident and clashes in Maidan Wardak, Ghazni and Nangarhar provinces.
The roadside bomb, that blew up a police vehicle in Khost province, resulted in the killing of six police personnel. The slain also included an officer, police spokesman Wazir Badshah told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the incident happened in Butkhana village of Yaqoobi district. The Afghan and NATO forces were on a patrol when the police vehicle stepped on the bomb.
Five personnel, including an officer Noor Jamal, died on the spot, while another succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Claiming responsibility for the explosion, purported Taliban spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid said six policemen were killed and their vehicle destroyed in the attack.
Separately, an ANA officer died and two soldiers injured in road accident on Kabul-Ghazni highway Thursday morning.
An officer, who survived the crash, told Pajhwok the car, they were traveling in, was overturned after one of its tyres burst in Aziz Kala area of Said Abad district.
Two Taliban militants were killed and two policemen injured in two separate incidents in Nangarhar and Ghazni provinces, officials said on Thursday.
Chief of Pacheer Agam district of the eastern Nangarhar province Mirza Muhammad said some police posts were attacked by the militants last night. He said no police personnel was killed or injured but one of the attackers was killed and another injured in retaliatory fire by the police.
The district chief admitted that a tented police post was burnt in the attack. He also informed about injuries to a civilian.
Taliban said they had destroyed several security posts in clashes in the district last night. Qari Sajad, calling himself spokesman for a militant group, said several cops were killed and their seven posts were destroyed in the attack.
Two more policemen were injured in an ambush in Mula Nooh Baba area of the southern Ghazni province. Chief of Andar district Abdul Rahim Desiwal told Pajhwok that one militant was killed and three more injured in retaliatory firing.
