Several trains detained, diverted following landmine explosion

(Kolkata,India) May 19 2010 -Train services on Kharagpur-Tata section in Kharagpur division of South Eastern Railway were affected due to a landmine explosion on the down line between Gidhni and Jhargram stations during the wee hours today


The explosion occurred at around 0200 hrs when a goods train was passing through the down line. The driver, SC Soren, and assistant driver, MKD Poddar, sustained serious injuries due to the blast. They were first taken to Jhargram Hospital and then shifted to the Kharagpur Railway Hospital, a SER release issued here said.
Train movement on both up and down lines on the section were stopped. Huge contingents of security personnel, including GRP, RPF and state police, rushed to the spot.
The up line traffic was restored at 0745 hrs, while the down line was fully repaired by 1030 hrs, SER sources said, adding train services were now normal.
Due to the explosion, the 2813/2814 Howrah-Tatanagar Steel Express was cancelled from both ends today while 8645 Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express has been rescheduled to leave Howrah at 1730 hrs instead of 1145 hrs. Several trains had suffered detention at various stations enroute, while some trains had to be diverted.
