Solder killed, 11 injured in Ladha blast (PAKISTAN)
A road bomb exploded as a military convoy was passing by Monday in a northwestern tribal region, blowing up a truck, killing one soldier and injuring 11 other, an army official said.
The explosion occurred near Ladha, a small town in the South Waziristan tribal region, the official said in condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the press. Eight of the injured solders were listed in serious condition.
No one claimed responsibility for the bombing, but security officials have blamed previous such attacks on Islamic militants, who are suspected to operate in the region bordering Afghanistan.
The attack in South Waziristan came a day after assailants opened fire on three off-duty soldiers in a bazaar in Mira Ali, a town in the adjoining North Waziristan tribal region, killing one and injuring the others.
