Three killed in Kashmir gunfight (Kashmir)

(27.02.2007) Two soldiers and an unidentified militant were killed in a gunfight in north Kashmir Tuesday, the army said.


The troopers of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles (National Rifles) sustained injuries and the unidentified militant was killed during a shoot out in north Kashmir's Drangusa Mawar area near the Kupwara border, 90 km from Srinagar the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, Lieutenant Colonel A K Mathur, spokesman of the Indian Army's 15th Corps said.
The two soldiers, succumbed to their injuries at the Army hospital, Mathur added.
In a separate incident, militants detonated a powerful landmine, planted presumably to target security forces, in the Eidgah area of Srinagar late Monday. No one was injured in the blast.
