Three militants detained in Chechnya (CHECHNYA)


A resident of the village of Samashki in Chechnya's Achkhoi-Martan district, suspected of involvement in an attack on a military commandant's office, has been detained in Chechnya. A weapons cache has been discovered in the village of Shovkhal-Berdi in Nozhai-Yurt district. It contained two rounds for a grenade launcher, a grenade and 150 cartridges.

"The suspect is believed to have been involved in an armed attack on the military commandant's office in the village of Shalazhi in Chechnya's Urus-Martan district," the local Russian Interior Ministry press center told Interfax on Wednesday.

A resident of the village of Alkhan-Yurt in Chechnya's Urus-Martan district who was detained earlier confessed to taking part in an attack on a thermal power plant in Grozny in November 2003 with two other militants, the press center said.

The assailants also seized policemen's weapons. Criminal charges of banditry and theft of weapons were brought against them.

On Tuesday, two local residents were detained in Grozny on suspicion of involvement in subversive acts against policemen and federal servicemen.
