Two Taliban arrested with mines in Helmand (Afghanistan)

LASHKARGAH, Sep 9 (Pajhwok Afghan News): Afghan National Army (ANA) Saturday netted two suspects Taliban who were planting remote-controlled landmines on Kandahar-Herat Highway in the restive Helmand province.

General Nabi Mallakhel, police chief of Helmand, told Pajhwok Afghan News the forces arrested these outlaws along with four remote-control mines in Pakhchal area in Greshk district of the province. He said the detainees wanted to plant the landmines on Kandahar-Herat Highway.

Mallakhel said they had handed over the detainees to the concerned department for further investigation. He said they would soon nab other accomplices of the detainees.

However, Ahmad Rahmani, spokesman for Taliban, told this news agency that security officials had arrested civilians and the detainees had no link with their movement.

He claimed that Taliban had killed four ANA soldiers and had destroyed their car with a remote-controlled landmine in Zanbali village, however, Mallakhel has refuted the statement.
