Ultra attack: ripples in Malkangiri (India)

Though the Maoist attack took place in the western parts of the state the ripples were even felt amongst security forces in this south Orissa district which is also infested by naxals. The extreme left elements had recently killed a contractor and a few days later they carried out land mine blasts when the local Congress MLA and his supporters were traveling near Motu.

The increasing number of operations by Naxals here and yesterday's Maoist attack on policemen in Sambalpur district have put the security forces on alert.

A recent development which has worried security officers is the talk of Naxals having penetrated among intellectuals and a few officials here. It is suspected that they have managed to obtain the support or such people and this has started bothering the security personnel engaged in combing operations.
